Brian Siller recently defended his PhD thesis! He has accepted a Research Scientist position at Tiger Optics, a company that specializes in making continuous wave cavity ringdown spectrometers for quantitative trace gas detection. He will be working both on improving the performance of their current instruments and early-stage development of some completely new ones.

Ben McCall was recently named Chair of the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy. Additionally, after 68 years of being hosted at Ohio State University, the Symposium will be moving to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Sub-Doppler Mid-Infrared Spectroscopy of Molecular Ions

As just reported in a cover article in Chemical Physics Letters, the McCall group has now implemented the first versatile technique for high-precision spectroscopy of molecular ions in the mid-infrared. This exciting result will have many applications in supporting astronomical observations, among other areas.
